Wolfgang Stifter (born 1946 in Ottensheim), one of the master students of Maximilian Melcher, recipient of the cultural award of the state of Upper Austria for visual arts, taught until 2014 as a professor at the University of Art Linz, where he served as rector from 1991 to 2000.
“As a painter, one wants to trigger, to be the cause of an effect”
Restless creativity over decades, numerous self-contained blocks of work, constant noting, sketching, fixing images from the mind, and yet discipline and control over all that randomness, that could characterize Stifter's work.
Annerose Riedl (born 1949 in Passau) came to sculpture as a self-taught artist. She prefers to carve her mostly female, always barefoot figures from lime wood and subsequently surface them, leaving the traces of the carving tools deliberately visible. Far from any idealization, they exude a calm, powerful presence. Annerose Riedl's community of collectors extends well beyond the borders of Upper Austria.
Alois Riedl (born 1935 in St. Marienkirchen near Schärding) developed his visual language as a self-taught artist, independent of artistic movements. “Drawing is an art of seeing - and in the works of Alois Riedl, a laboratory of form” Alfred Weidinger on the: Truth of Form - Alois Riedl's drawings. The starting point of his paintings are often everyday objects such as discarded chairs, sofas, or mattresses, and in recent years often panes of glass, which he transforms between figuration and abstraction into powerful, reduced, sometimes delicate graphical or fully painted image forms.
