The traditional fall concert of the Linzer Konzertverein.
The Linz Concert Society presents its Autumn Concert 2025 with three special features: a "classical" saxophone concert, a world premiere and two conductors who are members of the orchestra: Maria Nauen and Barbara Wild.In the first part of the program, conducted by Ms. Wild, soloist Evelyne Leeb gives saxophone fans and anyone who might become one the opportunity to hear Paul Creston's rarely performed Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra Op. 26. The American composer (1906-1985) drew on the "classical" tonal tradition, but combined it with rhythmic elements of modernism. The second work before the interval is Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 1 in C major.
After the interval, Maria Nauen takes over the baton. She composed the orchestral work Maria's Medley especially for this concert. She combines motifs from her own works to create a dense potpourri in which classical form and melodic design dominate. After her own work, Maria Nauen will conclude by conducting Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's fantasy overture Romeo and Juliet, which was inspired by William Shakespeare's famous tragedy.
