Brass music free from expectations. Without any reservations, the seven-member brass group connects local folk music traditions with global musical elements and their spirit of experimentation. FEDERSPIEL's signature is their original compositions. These largely reference the musical and biographical roots of the 7 musicians and explore the tension between tradition and modernity. The desire for the new, the personal, and the unmistakable, combined with their boundless passion for performance that is so palpable to the audience, makes FEDERSPIEL one of the most innovative and interesting ensembles in the European brass music scene.

FEDERSPIEL was founded in 2004 in Krems an der Donau. Key impulses came from the mastermind of Austrian folk music, Rudi Pietsch, who has accompanied the ensemble from the very beginning. The musical program soon expanded to include the music of the former crown lands of Austria-Hungary and beyond. The influences and inspirations reach from Scandinavia to New York. The youthful and cheeky sound remains anchored in the origins of Austrian musical culture.
