The 5th Long Night of Industrial Culture – 400 years of scythe production in the Almtal valley

Using faithfully preserved forging hammers, former blacksmiths demonstrate the art of scythe forging. The blacksmiths' stories give you an insight into the working world, the social environment of the scythe workers and their living conditions.

Scythe instructors demonstrate how to sharpen scythes and how easy it is to mow with a properly adjusted scythe. You can also try it yourself. Under supervision, you can even forge your own small horseshoe.

PROGRAMME

Scythe sharpening, horseshoe forging and guided tours of the museum.

• Scythe sharpening: 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. - You can bring your own scythe and have it sharpened, mowing demonstrations (you can try it yourself). No registration required.

• Forging your own horseshoe: 4:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. / 4:30 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. / 5:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. - by visitors (also suitable for children aged 8 and above). Max. 10 people per hour – spectators are of course also welcome.

• Guided tour of the museum – 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. / 7:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.:

Stories from former scythe smiths, demonstration forging (Zainen and Breiten). Max. 35 people per tour.

Catering: Snacks and sandwiches will be provided.
