Water - element of transformation, mirror of the soul, source of inspiration for generations of composers. Seas, rivers, lakes, storms: hardly any other natural element played such a poetic role in Baroque music. This program explores Baroque works in which female figures are closely associated with the fascinating world of water: The nymph Galatea, protagonist in Nicola Porpora's Polifemo, the legendary siren Partenope, sung about as the mythical founder of Naples in operas such as Leonardo Vinci's Rosmira fedele or George Frideric Handel's Partenope .

The internationally acclaimed soprano Julia Lezhneva lends her voice to these sonorous aquatic creatures - with her unique blend of technical brilliance and emotional expressiveness. At her side: the multi-award-winning Basel Chamber Orchestra, which complements the evening with excerpts from Handel's famous Water Music Suites. A concert between myth and the sea, full of baroque beauty.
