Fritz & Aaron Karl
String Quartet Sonare
“I hope it is not necessary to say that I care very little for Salzburg and not at all for the Archbishop, and I am concerned about both…” (W. A. Mozart)
Fritz Karl, a favorite with the audience and a “local hero,” whose performances are always celebrated – but especially at Lake Traun – is sharing the stage for the first time with his son Aaron in this program. Together, they read from the correspondence between Wolfgang Amadeus and his father Leopold Mozart. The Upper Austrian string quartet Sonare plays works by both of them.
The letters testify to a close relationship, but also to dependence, financial difficulties, and the classic generational conflict. The dominant father warned his son about ending up “castrated by some woman, living in a room with needy children on a straw sack.” The marriage of Mozart to Constanze Weber led to a fallout, and the letters become frostier.
Fritz Karl, born in 1965 at Lake Traun, is among the busiest actors in the German-speaking world. He impresses both as a stage artist as well as a TV series star and film actor. Aaron Karl, born in 1990 in Vienna, studied acting at the film school in Potsdam and is known from the series “Walking on Sunshine,” is a musician, and plays in a band.
