Almost half of all livestock breeds have either become extinct over the past century or are considered acutely endangered. Only around 20% of the orchards of the last century have not been abandoned! Let's talk about why old breeds and varieties are worth protecting and how food production and nature conservation work together.

Orchard meadows are among Europe's biodiversity hotspots and provide both a gene reservoir for food production and consequently food diversity, as well as a suitable home for a large number of animal and plant species. Explore the local flora and fauna around the historic Sumerauerhof with us, learn more about the special features and inhabitants of the orchard habitat, get to know our animals and find out what makes peacock goats, zackel sheep and stone sheep so special. What are the principles of sustainable and resource-conserving use?

Why are old breeds and varieties worth protecting? What does this have to do with climate change and our personal health? Get to know the orchard habitat with us and find out what makes this biotope so special. Those interested in nature will receive exciting documents for follow-up and in-depth study afterwards. If desired, participants will receive a great souvenir photo - and there will also be a surprise or two! There will also be plenty of culinary delights. An excursion for all the senses! Let yourself be surprised and (dis)guided!
