EUROTRASH: A powerful spectacle between humor and pain
“Who would be interested in that? A story in which absolutely nothing happens, except that an old woman occasionally argues with her son.” (Christian Kracht)
The new novel by Swiss author Christian Kracht has piqued interest so much that shortly after its release, it was dramatized by the most important stages in the German-speaking world, delivering a theatrical highlight to audiences in Hamburg, Berlin, and Vienna in the form of a dramaturgical “road movie.” At the center are two standout roles for a very different pair: the not-so-young son, an alter ego of the author, and the health-fragile mother, who is inclined toward vodka, white wine, and pills. Together, they embark on one last journey through the former Swiss homeland by taxi and mountain railway, where the history tragically, comically, and sometimes spectacularly intersects with the family history and its abysses.
Christian Kracht's brutal yet tender unflinchingness gives the story intensity and humor. EUROTRASH is a human comedy of existential weight and a celebration for an actress and an actor: Petra Morzé, known to the audience of the Salzkammergut Festival Gmunden through performances with Schnitzler and Thomas Bernhard, and the young Tyrolean actor Benedikt Steiner, a member of the Linz State Theater ensemble, take on the roles of the quarrelsome mother-son duo in Dominique Schnizer's production.
Co-production with the Linz State Theater.
