The Spiders, The Incas
High above the Pesenbach Valley in close contact with the alpacas
Starting from the oldest nature reserve in Upper Austria, we visit several herds of alpacas on the Rottenberg. We gain an insight into the behavior of these unique landscape caretakers and fiber animals and their benefits for the environment and climate.
High above the wild and romantic Pesenbach Valley and with impressive views of the Danube Valley, we spend time together in the herd of mares with their foals. We feed the gentle animals with their favorite leaves and observe the fascinating social behavior of these curious herd animals.
Alpacas are not wild animals, but have lived with humans for thousands of years and therefore enjoy our presence. With their big eyes and engaging nature, they enchant children and adults alike. Alpacas have always been bred for their unique fiber characteristics. It is possible to spin the fleece of the gods, as the Incas called it, into thread using an original hand spindle. The fine fiber makes it possible to produce valuable textiles from the region.
We continue our hike on our steep rough pastures to the herd of young stallions and breeding stallions. After moors and forests, these extensively used meadows and pastures have the greatest ability to store carbon and preserve a colorful variety of flowers and herbs. They make a valuable contribution to the climate and environment.
Alpacas are not only used for landscape conservation and as a source of fiber, but are also used on hikes. During training, we observe what these curious and clever little camels learn so that accompanying strangers is a relaxed experience for them too.
