Reopening of the permanent exhibition: Archaeology

28.06.2026 / 10:00
Linz, Castle Museum Linz
Vergnügungsveranstaltung, Sonstige Vergnügungsveranstaltung

With its new permanent archaeology exhibition, the Schlossmuseum offers free admission to a tour through the history of Upper Austria from the Neolithic Age to the Romans.

Archaeological highlights, current projects and research findings are presented and communicated in several rooms. The first room is the treasure chamber with six extraordinary highlight objects. The second room focuses on archaeological methods. The recently discovered Medusa from Hallstatt, one of the most important individual finds from Roman antiquity in Upper Austria, is also on display here. Another three rooms are dedicated to a special feature of Upper Austria: with four UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Upper Austria has an exceptionally dense cultural heritage of international importance. Three of these are directly related to archaeology, prehistory and early history: the prehistoric pile dwellings, the Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut cultural landscape with the outstanding importance of Hallstatt and the Danube Limes.

Opening: Sunday, June 28, 2026, 10:00 am, Registration: New opening of the permanent exhibition Archaeology - ooekultur.at
