Women wear traditional costume in Upper Austria. Every generation wears its own dress and yet there are lines of development that continue over decades and centuries.

When it came to her choice of clothing, this woman from Upper Austria had always been curious about new trends, which she was happy to adopt whenever her circumstances allowed. At the same time, however, she remained true to region-specific traditions, which are reflected in the details. After the end of dress codes in the mid-18th century, a distinct Upper Austrian clothing tradition was able to develop. In addition to the regional suit, a traditional costume also evolved for Upper Austrian women, which has endured as the regional costume and is now set to receive contemporary inspiration.
