Women wear traditional costume in Upper Austria. Every generation wears its own dress and yet there are lines of development that continue over decades and centuries.

In her choice of clothes, the Upper Austrian has always been curious about novelties, which she gladly adopted as far as her possibilities allowed. However, she remained within regionally specific traditions, which were expressed in the details. After the end of the dress codes in the middle of the 18th century, a distinct Upper Austrian dress tradition was able to develop. Alongside the provincial suit, a traditional costume developed for the Upper Austrian woman, which continues to exist as a provincial costume and is now to receive contemporary impulses.
