International Brucknerfest Linz 2025. film classics at Moviemento In cooperation with the Brucknerhaus Linz, Moviemento is showing Luchino Visconti's Death in Venice, in which Mahler's 5th Symphony plays an important musical role.
The day after the concert with Daniele Gatti and the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden, Moviemento, in cooperation with the Brucknerhaus Linz, will be showing Luchino Visconti's cinematic masterpiece Death in Venice and bringing Gustav Mahler's 5th Symphony to life on the big screen. In the adaptation of Thomas Mann's novella of the same name, Gustav von Aschenbach - here not a successful writer as in Mann's novel, but an unsuccessful, ailing composer - sets off on a holiday to Venice. At his hotel, he meets the young Tadzio, whom he immediately falls hopelessly in love with. Without exchanging a single word with him, Aschenbach develops a veritable obsession with the boy. He not only forgets himself more and more, but also ignores every warning about the Indian cholera that is spreading through the city. Instead of newly composed music, the film is accompanied by excerpts from various classical works, with the Adagietto from Mahler's 5th Symphony running through the plot like a leitmotif.OK Platz 1, 4020 Linz
