Symphony No. 1 in C major, op. 21
The opening of the Upper Austrian Abbey Concerts will not be marked by youthful exuberance. Stiftskonzerte 2025, but rather youthful excellence - in a double-back at the conductor's and soloist's podium. You certainly know Christoph Koncz as an outstanding Vienna Philharmonic 2nd violinist, and has done so since the age of 20. Now he is making his conducting debut with the Bruckner Orchestra Linz. The Constance-born musician is currently chief conductor of the Deutsche Kammerakademie Neuss and music director of the Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse. It will be interesting to hear his interpretation of Beethoven's most popular "Leonore" overture and the first symphony in C major, which was regarded as Beethoven's answer to Haydn's symphonies.
In the classical period, hardly anyone thought of the cello as a virtuoso instrument, apart from Joseph Haydn. "Whirlwind" Julia Hagen interprets his first cello concerto, thus fulfilling a long-standing invitation from the Upper Austrian. Stiftskonzert for a long time. The Salzburg native is now the winner of the UBS Young Artist Award 2024 and performed in concert with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Christian Thielemann: Christoph Koncz!
