Namafu Amutse (Namibia), Mbaye Diop (Senegal) and Olivia Mary Nantongo (Uganda) artistically appropriate the hybrid space WANDALA in order to lift African images out of their stereotypical anchoring and weave rebellious narratives into a new diaspora of images.
The focus is on the interfaces of postcolonial negotiations. These create ruptures and call for self-empowerment. "Why is Africa so perforated and undermined," asks Cameroonian political scientist Achille Mbembe - "when will this matter be addressed, where are we going?" WANDALA shows ways to shed the face of enslavement and rebuff the victimization that has been a compliant counterpart to looting and harassment for centuries - with the long overdue contradiction of new narratives.OK Platz 1, 4020 Linz
