100 Years of Cur Orchestra / 200 Years of Johann Strauss
In the 100th anniversary year and exactly on the 200th birthday of Johann Strauss Jr., the renowned Bad Schallerbach Salon Orchestra will perform solely immortal melodies of the Waltz King. Notable soloists include the renowned Munich soprano Cornelia Horak and tenor Gernot Heinrich. The concert will be moderated by opera ball commentator Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz.
Cornelia Horak
The freelance soprano from Vienna is a sought-after concert and opera singer with a versatile repertoire. Cornelia Horak studied recorder at the Conservatory of the City of Vienna with Ernst Kölz and at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Hans Maria Kneihs, starting at the age of 12. She completed her vocal studies with KS Hilde Rössel-Majdan at the Goetheanum Conservatory in Vienna. Baroque singing courses with Cristina Miatello in Padua complemented her musical training.
As part of her permanent engagements, the artist has developed a repertoire of over 50 roles in the fields of opera, operetta, and musical.
The soprano was a winner of the international song competition in s'Hertogenbosch and was nominated twice for the Merkur Theater Prize in Munich.
Guest performances and concerts have taken the singer to numerous festivals, including the Salzburg Festival, the Ultraschall Festival 2014 Berlin, the Carinthian Summer, the Musica Viva Festival of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation, Styriarte Graz, the Bregenz Festival, the Budapest Spring Festival, the L'Arte salva L'Arte Festival in Rome, the International Baroque Days Melk, the International Nikolaus Harnoncourt Days St.Georgen, the International Music Festival Bogotá, and the Bach Festival in Lausanne.
Cornelia Horak's versatility is also evident in her collaboration with various chamber music ensembles in both Early and Contemporary Music.
The soprano has been and continues to be a guest at numerous European opera houses, including the Vienna Volksoper, the Theater an der Wien, the Stadttheater Baden, the Stadttheater Klagenfurt, the Langenlois Festival, Teatro la Fenice in Venice, the National Theater Weimar, the Opéra National de Lorraine in Nancy, the Musical Comedy in Leipzig, and the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz.
Cornelia Horak has sung under conductors such as Michael Boder, Ivor Bolton, Friedrich Cerha, Rubén Dubrovsky, Adam Fischer, Stefan Gottfried, Sir Neville Marriner, Erwin Ortner, Jordi Savall, Ulf Schirmer, Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Christian Thielemann, and Lothar Zagrosek, and has worked with directors including Robert Carsen, Claus Guth, Brigitte Fassbaender, Josef E. Köpplinger, Peter Konwitschny, Helmut Matiasek, Aron Stiehl, Michael Sturminger, Keith Warner, and Franz Winter.
Gernot Heinrich
Born in Eisenstadt and raised in Deutschkreutz, he was an alto soloist with the Vienna Boys' Choir at international concerts and at the Vienna State Opera. He graduated from the Musikgymnasium in Oberschützen and studied trumpet in Graz and vocal pedagogy at the Vienna Music University.
Stations of his international career included the State Theater Ulan Bator/Mongolia, Frankfurt Opera, Bregenz Festival, Mörbisch Lake Festival, Wien Modern, Vienna Festival Weeks, Styriarte, Carinthian Summer, Ruhr Festival Recklinghausen (D), Festival dell‘ Aurora in Crotone (I), Budapest Spring Festival (H), Kyburgiade (CH), and many more.
Recently, he celebrated successes at the world premiere of "Staatsoperette – Die Austrotragodie" by Zykan at the Bregenz Festival and in Vienna, as well as in the opera "Die Antilope" by Staud at the Vienna MuseumsQuartier and in Bolzano/I. He also sang the Messiah by Handel and the Stabat Mater by Haydn in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein. The main role in the world premiere of the opera "Das Totenschiff" by Aichinger at Wien Modern and a "Fledermaus" production in Switzerland and an opera production in Athens/Greece were further engagements.
In recent years, he has given concerts including Bach's Christmas Oratorio IIII under Jordi Savall, an opera production of Acis and Galatea by Handel in Wietzow/Germany, concerts with the Concilium musicum Vienna in Germany, and performances of Beethoven's 9th with the Philharmonic Orchestra Györ in Mödling and Györ.
Key concerts in 2022 included Bach's Christmas Oratorio IV-VI at Styriarte, concert with Handel's Messiah and Bach's Magnificat in Graz, performances of Bach's St. John's Passion in Paris, concerts with Haydn's Paukenmesse, Mozart's Davide Penitente, and other works by Bach and Zelenka in Vienna, Linz, and Tulln, a small song evening in Carinthia with works by Brahms and Herzogenberg, further performances of Acis and Galatea in Wietzow/D, three concerts in the Salzkammergut, as well as five performances of Carmina Burana in Rapperswil-Jona/CH and two concerts with Mendelssohn's "Elias" in Vienna and Pernegg, and seven performances of the oratorio "Kabbala" by René Clemencic in the Vienna Planetarium, as well as the world premiere of "ALICE – a fantastic revue" at the Vienna Odeon with 11 performances at the Wien Modern Festival.
Concerts in the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, concerts in Mödling, Breitenfurt, Perchtoldsdorf, Maria Saal, Kapfenberg, Neuberg an der Mürz, as well as performances of the Marian Vespers by Monteverdi in Venice and Forli/Italy, a concert with works by Handel in Prague, and performances of the "Oratorio de Noël" by Saint-Saëns in Switzerland and Bach's St. Matthew Passion and St. John's Passion in Ulm were also on his agenda.
Christoph Wagner-Trenkwitz
The native Viennese completed his studies in music and political science as well as Romance studies in his hometown.
His work as a performer began in 1984 at the Kabarett Niedermair, and he further acted at the Auersperg Theater and the legendary Graf Roland Theater.
From 1993 to 2022, he worked at the Austrian Federal Theaters, initially as press chief, then as chief dramaturg of the Vienna State Opera, later as artistic coordinator and chief dramaturg of the Volksoper Vienna.
Since 2001, he has been the TV commentator of the Vienna Opera Ball, and he also hosts programs including Klassiktreffpunkt, Pasticcio, Anklang, Ausgewählt, as well as broadcasts of the New Year's Concert on Ö1. From 2013 to 2016, he was the artistic director of the Theater Summer Haag, and since 2020 he has been the director of the Operette Langenlois, and since 2022, dramaturg at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz (Munich).
He has published numerous books (e.g., "Alles Walzer. Der Opernball von A bis Z") and released CDs (most recently "Gemischter Satz" with Günther Groissböck).
Appearances as a lecturer, moderator, and actor have taken him to, among others, the Berlin State Opera, Bonn Opera, and the Baden Stage, to the Bregenz and Salzburg Festivals, to the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz Munich and the Goethe House Frankfurt, to the Richard Strauss Festivals in Garmisch, to the Festival House St. Pölten, to the Grafenegg Festival, to the Klagenfurt City Theater, the Vienna Concert Hall, the Music Association, and the Vienna Festival Weeks.
