Theresia and Thomas Gansch, finally together on stage!
Thomas Gansch
Thomas Gansch, born in 1975, has always successfully evaded classification.
Whether in the formation "Mnozil Brass," which he co-founded and with which he has been performing around the globe for thirty years, in the legendary "Vienna Art Orchestra," as a soloist with a large orchestra or in a family-theatrical association with his wife Theresia and their joint program "Double Gansch," whether as a composer, arranger, presenter, pop singer, big band leader, or brass band conductor, the native of Lower Austria cannot be confined to any musical genre.
He likes to summarize all varieties of his art under the term “music” that either “moves me, or it doesn't” to dispel all prejudices and give listeners an intuitive access to listening. Various projects have taken Gansch to over 45 countries and his first musical experiences, made in his father's brass band Johann Gansch S. (1925 – 1998), have over the years been supplemented by numerous other impulses, which he — in the spirit of the gifted improviser — always integrates immediately into his work.
Thus, Gansch today draws on his rich artistic experience and brings his captivating personality into every project, from symphony orchestras to chamber music ensembles, from jazz to contemporary music, from pop acts to music theater and comedy programs, into his performances.
There are no hierarchies in his understanding of art, and he manages to continually excite and "pick up" the audience.
Theresia Gansch
The native Viennese was drawn to the stage from an early age, whether in her first TV attempts at “Fortsetzung folgt nicht” or playing the violin with her father, the Viennese song violinist, Reinhold Wegmann.
She studied acting from 1999 to 2003 in Graz, at the University of Music and Performing Arts, where she, together with her classmates, won the audience and drama school award 2002 for the production of Werner Schwab's “Übergewicht, unwichtig: Uniform.” Thanks to this award, the production was invited to Moscow for a European theater school meeting.
After her training, Theresia Gansch (Wegmann) worked as a freelance artist. Major clients included the Vienna Festival (This is not a lovesong), Salzburg Festival (Jedermann), Graz Schauspielhaus (Das Fest/Michelle), as well as significant roles, such as Irina in Chekhov's Three Sisters at the Winterthur Theater, the Wild Woman in Peter Handke's Untertagblues at the Kosmos Theater Bregenz, or Susanne in The Marriage of Figaro in South Tyrol. She also made her first steps in the world of television and film, as well as working as a director, before starting a family interrupted her career plans.
In her self-written program “Double Gansch,” she, together with her husband Thomas Gansch, takes stock and humorously reports on the drama of the role demands on the modern woman, but also on today’s man.
