SIGNUM saxophone quartet
The SIGNUM saxophone quartet is everything but ordinary: Four outstanding saxophonists who have known each other since their studies and have been continually reinventing themselves. Musical boundary crossers, whose deep dedication to the classical string quartet sound goes hand in hand with a great enthusiasm for the rock classics of our time. Add to that an incomparable charisma that tops off the impressive, virtuosic skills of Blaž Kemperle, Jacopo Taddei, Alan Lužar, and Aram Poghosyan.
From the very first second, the exceptional musicians ignite a musical fireworks display full of emotions during their performances – characterized by an insatiable curiosity for stylistic boundary experiences and the unwavering search for the perfect ensemble sound. Whether original compositions for saxophone quartet, arrangements of orchestral works, Baroque compositions, or rock music – SIGNUM's unwavering love for music spans nearly all epochs and genres. It is hard to explain this masterful joy of playing: You have to experience it.
The young SIGNUM saxophone quartet, awarded in international competitions, made its debut in 2013 at Carnegie Hall in New York and quickly expanded its success: As "Rising Stars" of the European Concert Hall Organization (ECHO), the SIGNUMs took their step onto the largest European stages in the 2014/15 season, where they have now been at home for years.
The SIGNUM saxophone quartet is not only well-known for its quartet performances but also for collaborations with fellow musicians. With star violinist Daniel Hope, for example, the four not only appeared together for the arte format "Hope@Home" in front of the TV camera but also completed several joint performances.
In the coming season, the SIGNUMs will perform with Fazil Say, Ksenija Sidorova, Alexej Gerassimez, Kai Schumacher, Daniel Hope, and many other fellow musicians.
They are also looking forward to various orchestral concerts in 2024, including the world premiere of a concert specially composed for them by Christian Jost: Eismeer. Its premiere takes place as part of the celebration “250 Years of Caspar David Friedrich” and the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Festival – by the way, the SIGNUMs are the "Residents Award Winners" this year with over 20 concerts of various character!
A special project close to the hearts of the group is the family concert program “SIGNUM4kids,” which is specifically aimed at young music lovers and tomorrow's audience.
The SIGNUM saxophone quartet has already released several albums. In 2021, “Echoes” was released as their first recording on the Deutsche Grammophon label. In 2024, the ensemble will present its new album: “Chameleon” (Berlin Classics).
