Die schöne Müllerin
Julian Prégardien, one of the most outstanding international representatives of the young generation of classical singers, and pianist Daniel Heide engage in their interpretation of Franz Schubert's song cycle "Die schöne Müllerin" with puppeteer Manuela Linshalm. Together they tell the story of the unfulfilled love of a young miller's apprentice, which touches us with its oscillation of intense feelings from youthful lightheartedness to yearning for death out of love sorrow to this day.

Julien Prégardien
Julian Prégardien was born in Frankfurt and received his first musical education in the choirs of Limburg Cathedral Music. After studying in Freiburg and as part of the Aix-en-Provence Opera Festival Academy, he was a member of the ensemble at the Frankfurt Opera from 2009 to 2013. At the same time, his international concert activity developed.
He is now considered one of the outstanding international representatives of the young generation of classical singers. His clear voice, deep understanding of text, and ability to tell stories make him a sought-after song interpreter. A particular focus of Julian Prégardien's artistic work is song recitals and chamber music projects. On the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the creation of Schubert's "Die Schöne Müllerin", he performed this masterpiece at 10 different locations in Vienna in the fall of 2023. This extraordinary experience inspired him to found the Liedstadt festival, which will take place for the first time in Hamburg in October 2024 and will present artists in diverse formats on the theme of "song".
As an opera singer, he has performed at the festival in Aix-en-Provence, at the Hamburg State Opera, and the Bavarian State Opera, as well as at the Opéra Comique in Paris. In 2018, he made his debut at the Salzburg Festival as Narraboth in Richard Strauss' Salome (directed by Romeo Castellucci) with the Vienna Philharmonic under the direction of Franz Welser-Möst. In 2019, he debuted as Tamino in a new production of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Berlin State Opera. During the Mozart Week 2023, he made his debut as Don Ottavio in two semi-staged performances of Mozart's Don Giovanni under the direction of András Schiff. He was seen at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples in the staged adaptation of Romeo Castellucci's Mozart Requiem under the direction of Raphaël Pichon. In May 2024, he performed Mozart's Die Zauberflöte in Cleveland, where he achieved great success as Tamino under the direction of Franz Welser-Möst and in a production by Nikolaus Habjan. His close collaboration with Franz Welser-Möst will continue in January 2025 with a new production of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at the Vienna State Opera.
Julian Prégardien was the "Artiste Étoile" of the Mozart Festival in Würzburg in 2019, where he performed with the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra and the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, among others. Recent highlights include a tour with Concentus Musicus under Stefan Gottfried, concerts with the Cleveland Orchestra under Franz Welser-Möst, as well as his debut at Carnegie Hall with Orchestra St. Luke's under Bernard Labadie. He has also been featured with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra under Klaus Mäkelä, with the Symphony Orchestra of the Bavarian Radio under Sir John Eliot Gardiner and Riccardo Muti, with the Tonhalle Orchestra and Alondra de la Parra, with the Ensemble Pygmalion under Raphaël Pichon, and with La Cetra under Andrea Marcon. A special highlight was Bach's Matthäus-Passion with the Vienna Philharmonic under Franz Welser-Möst, Bach's Johannes-Passion with the Gewandhaus Orchestra under the Thomaner Cantor Andreas Reize, as well as Bach's Matthäus-Passion with the Collegium Vocale Gent and Philippe Herreweghe.
Julian Prégardien returns to the Salzburg Festival as Don Ottavio in Mozart's Don Giovanni and as Evangelist in Bach's Matthäus-Passion, both under the direction of Teodor Currentzis. Other highlights of the 2024-2025 season include Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen with the DSO in Berlin, Haydn's Die Schöpfung and a tour with Beethoven's Missa solemnis together with the Balthasar-Neumann Ensemble and Thomas Hengelbrock, Monteverdi's L’Orfeo with Les Épopées and Stéphane Fuget in Dortmund and Versailles, a tour with Bach's Johannes-Passion with the Ensemble Pygmalion and Raphaël Pichon, as well as Britten's Serenade for Tenor and Horn with the Munich Chamber Orchestra.
In addition to song recitals across Europe, he will perform Schubert's Die Schöne Müllerin together with Sir András Schiff at the Salzburg Festival, the Klosters Festival, London Wigmore Hall, and in Vicenza. With Kristian Bezuidenhout, he gives song recitals at the Schwetzinger Festspiele, in the Vienna Concert Hall, and in the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid.
Julian Prégardien has released Schubert's Winterreise, Schubert's Schwanengesang, and Schumann's Dichterliebe under the Alpha Classics label. He is recently an exclusive artist of Harmonia Mundi, where Schubert's Die Schöne Müllerin with Kristian Bezuidenhout on the fortepiano will be released in August 2024. Furthermore, he has been a professor of singing at the Munich University of Music and Performing Arts since 2017, a member of the Schumann network, and artistic director of the Brentano Academy Aschaffenburg.

Daniel Heide
The pianist Daniel Heide from Weimar is currently known mainly as one of the most sought-after song accompanists of his generation. He increasingly appears as a soloist in piano recitals. He studied at the Franz Liszt University in his hometown with Prof. Ludwig Bätzel but describes himself more as a self-taught and seeker, citing video recordings, records, and interviews with great pianists of the past as important inspirations.
His extensive concert activity has taken him throughout Europe, to South Africa, South America, and many countries in Asia. As a song accompanist and chamber music partner, he is a regular guest at renowned festivals such as the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg and Hohenems, in the Vienna Musikverein, at the Ciclo de Lied in Teatro Zarzuela in Madrid (ESP), at Santa Cecilia in Rome (IT), the Schubertiada Vilabertran, Barcelona and in the Basque Country (ES), the Eppan Song Summer (IT), the BBC Edinburgh International Festival (GB), the Oxford Lieder Festival (GB), Spring Festival Tokyo (J), among others. He has performed in the major concert halls of Europe, including the Philharmonies in Berlin, Cologne, Bilbao, and Paris, the Vienna Concert Hall, the Frankfurt Opera, Wigmore Hall London, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Tonhalle Zurich, Palau de la Música Barcelona, Børssalen Copenhagen, deSingel Antwerp, as well as the Muziekcentrum De Bijloke in Ghent, and recently in the Bunka Kaikan Hall in Tokyo (JPN).
An intensive collaboration connects him with singers such as Andrè Schuen, Konstantin Krimmel, Christoph Prégardien, Julian Prégardien, Katharina Konradi, Patrick Grahl, Tobias Berndt, and Britta Schwarz. He had a close collaboration with the German-Greek mezzo-soprano Stella Doufexis†. Their jointly recorded CD "Poèmes" with songs by Claude Debussy received the Prize of the German Record Critics.
As a partner in sonata evenings, he has also performed with soloists such as Tabea Zimmermann, Julia Hagen, Andreas Willwohl, and the Mandelring Quartet. An important impetus for his career as a song accompanist was the founding of the concert series "Der lyrische Salon – Liederabende auf Schloss Ettersburg" in 2011. As a piano partner, he has accompanied numerous renowned solo vocalists in over a hundred song evenings in this concert series.
Daniel Heide loves to work in melodramatic contexts, including in programs with Christian Brückner, Klaus Maria Brandauer, Thomas Thieme, Hanns Zischler, Markus Meyer, Sky Dumont, and Udo Samel.

Manuela Linshalm
The puppeteer and actress can be seen in numerous theater and opera productions and was long active as a lecturer. As a puppeteer, she has worked for many years with Nikolaus Habjan and at the Schubert Theater Vienna, as well as freelancing in numerous theaters and opera houses at home and abroad.
Franz Schubert's song cycle "Die schöne Müllerin" is enriched by her puppetry and recitation.
