Nostalgic rides with the SchafbergBahn

Ready for a unique experience? In the summer months, the 130-year-old nostalgic train steams up the Schafberg for an evening natural spectacle. With a bit of weather luck, the Salzkammergut can be seen from its most beautiful side here - at an altitude of 1,783 meters! Once at the top, a refreshing welcome drink and a delicious roast await you in the Himmelspforte.

The cogwheel steam locomotives, which are over 130 years old, are among the oldest still operational cogwheel steam locomotives in the world. As fewer and fewer companies have the necessary expertise, almost all repairs are carried out in the workshop in St. Wolfgang. A preparation time of four hours is required for the nostalgia trip. A total of 500 kilograms of high-quality coal and 3,000 liters of water are needed for an uphill and downhill journey in the nostalgic sets.
