The Nativity - traditionally and imaginatively inserted into the local landscape, with hand-carved figures in a diverse scenery.
In 2000, we created a small home-made nativity scene in our house. We built and carved eagerly on this crib, so it grew from year to year into a 7 m² large, impressive landscape crib.
It contains depictions of the most important stages of the nativity (the search for shelter, the birth, the flight to Egypt where Mary went to Elizabeth in the mountains and the Epiphany procession).
In this nativity scene you can see many replicas and sights of our beautiful village of Scharnstein, such as the Scharnstein ruins, Scharnstein Castle, Viechtwang church and our parents' houses.
When admiring the nativity scene, you can see at first glance that this is our beautiful home.
Our view of the mountains of the Totes Gebirge is reflected in the background of the nativity scene.
The figures are carved by ourselves and some of them move, others show the customs and crafts of our region and some of the figures are very similar to our family members.
The nativity scene also looks very interesting in the dark when the windows of the houses are lit up.
The Viechtwanger house crib can be visited from 28.12. to 02.02. every Sunday from 14:00 - 18:00 and on request also at other opening times.
