When a sound cloud descended over Linz for the first time in 1979, nobody could have imagined that this event would become an institution, or even a real Linz landmark. The Linz Klangwolke stands out as a spectacular highlight in the city's cultural calendar. It is the largest staged open-air event in Europe with free admission. Up to 100,000 people flock to the Donaupark every year to admire this total work of art consisting of scenic performances, text, music, light and many other design elements. The Danube is always involved, its waves become just as much a stage as its banks. Renowned artists from various genres have already created the Linzer Klangwolke. They have all managed to use the Donaupark in their own individual way and to leave their personal mark on their respective Klangwolke.
