Guided tour of the "Dom am Pyhrn" church

Important Austrian Baroque artists created a total work of art full of astonishing harmony in the collegiate church.

Domenico Antonio Carlone decorated the interior of the church with his calm colors and magnificent stucco pilasters. The frescoes by Bartolomeo Altomonte in the presbytery are a highlight of Baroque church painting in Upper Austria. The finial made by Andreas Ferdinand Lindemayr is considered one of the most beautiful wrought iron works in Austria. Artistry and faith have made our church so magnificent.

To the north of the church in the so-called "Dechantstöckel" is the treasury of the former Spital Abbey. Documents, paraments and liturgical equipment were kept here. The treasury now houses particularly valuable sculptures, chasubles and historically significant documents relating to the monastery and the two churches.

The crypt under the presbytery of the collegiate church was the burial place of the canons of Spital am Pyhrn. From January 25 to May 15, 1945, the entire gold treasure of the Hungarian National Bank (33,000 kg) was stored here. The crypt was restored in 1992.
