ATTERGAU NEW YEAR’S CONCERT

It is a wonderful tradition for the Vienna Philharmonic Soloists to invite the audience each year to welcome the New Year together to the music of the Strauss dynasty, Franz Lehár, and others.

Featuring overtures, the most popular waltzes—such as “Wiener Blut” and “Gschichten aus dem Wienerwald,” to name just a few — as well as rousing polkas , the concert will culminate, as it does every year, with Johann Strauss II’s “Danube Waltz.”

This year’s special guest is Herbert Lippert, one of Austria’s most versatile singers, who has enjoyed international success both on the opera stage and in the art song repertoire. He has a special affinity for waltz music. Time and again, he succeeds in capturing the joy, but also the melancholy and wistfulness, of Viennese music and in thrilling the audience with the necessary flair.

Recently, Herbert Lippert has also increasingly made a name for himself as a successful painter.

He will enchant the audience with hits such as Kálmán’s “Wenn es Abend wird – Grüss mir mein Wien” from the operetta *Countess Mariza* and Lehár’s “Dein ist mein ganzes Herz” from the operetta *The Land of Smiles*, among others.

In keeping with the message of the popular and globally broadcast “Grand” New Year’s Concert by the Vienna Philharmonic from the Golden Hall of the Vienna Musikverein, all performers view the concert as a message of peace for the audience in a time of great turmoil and uncertainty.
