One of the oldest Sportevents of the Salzkammergut finally finds its way back to Gosau at Dachstein
"The Schuhplattler", a folklore club of Gosau, celebrates the perhaps oldest sports event of the Salzkammergut, and it is finally back in Gosau at Dachstein.
The Fassdauben race is quite similar to skiing, however instead of alpine skies and skiing clothes, the athletes wear, folklore clothes and barrel staves. In teams of three those brace men and women, ski against each other for the win, the winner however is not the fastest or prettiest, the middle time counts.
The beginning is at 1 p.m., the victory ceremony is directly afterwards.
Don´t miss out on the Fassdauben race at the Sumarakante!
Not everyone is familiar with Fassdauben, all the more you should at least have been a spectator at a stave race.
Fassdauben are the curved boards, which give the barrel the form and the hold. Held only by leather straps, the brave ones throw themselves down the slope. Usually there are also some obstacles that have to be overcome.
The perfect outfit is the traditional Dirndl or the traditional Lederhosen as well as a mountain stick, which should give some hold. And of course the hat is a must as a headdress.
