No wonder, then, that it has been declared an intangible cultural heritage of Austria by UNESCO! Unlike many other Krampus and Perchten runs, however, the focus is not on the evil devil but on goodness in the person of Saint Nicholas. The event is supported by the local Trachtenverein (traditional costume association), which has made it its mission to pass on this special tradition from generation to generation.
