Palm Leaf Sanctification

Blessing of the palms at the Mozartplatz and holy mass in the parish church in St. Gilgen.

In preparation for Palm Sunday, the tradition of tying „palm bundles“ for blessing takes place. The bundles usually include small branches of juniper, holly, thuja, box, yew, pussy willow, hazel. The bundles are often decorated with apples, ribbons and slivers of bark. After being blessed during Palm Sunday services the bundles are placed on home crucifixes or displayed on long sticks in fields.
