In Catholic communities the 26th December is celebrated as St. Stephen’s Day and is the second day of Christmas. St. Stephen is commemorated on this day as one of the first martyrs in the history of Christianity. In Austria St. Stephens Day is an official holiday. St. Stephen is of great importance here, as is evident from the name of St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna.
