For a long time, it remained hidden from view. It wasn’t until after the fall of the Iron Curtain, in 1990, that it came into the spotlight of the new Europe and became accessible to tourists and visitors along its entire length. During the summer months, cultural events and well-attended boat parades take place along the canal:

The site of the demonstration flood can also be reached by bike along the Schwemmkanal bike route! Another demonstration flood will take place in 2026 on Saturday, September 5, in Oberhaag/Iglbach.
