The first stage is a much shorter start to the tour than the others and is also less strenuous as it runs alongside the Danube and is therefore completely flat.
If you start the route at the tomb of St Wolfgang in St Emmeram, the best way to leave Regensburg is as follows: turn right at Emmeramsplatz and continue along St Peters-Weg until you reach Maximilianstraße, which you turn left into. This is the only wide and straight street in Regensburg's Old Town. At the cathedral, turn left into Domstraße, then round the corner at the cathedral until you come to the alley "Unter den Schwibbögen", which you turn right into. You come to a larger square where you can see the Danube bridge "Eiserner Steg". Once you have used this, you are on the island of Wöhrd, where the Danube cycle path markings become visible. This path is so well signposted that you will not be able to miss it for the rest of the day. A description of the exact route therefore does not seem necessary and we will limit ourselves here to what there is to see and experience along the cycle path.Direction information: Departure
