We start our bike ride at the Urfahr market grounds and ride downstream along the Danube Cycle Path (sign R1). Passing the bathing lake in Plesching, we reach Steyregg. Always following the Danube dam, you finally arrive at the Abwinden-Asten Danube power plant. However, we do not ride directly to the power plant but turn left about 500 m before towards Abwinden. At Abwinden, the cycle path now leads us a bit away from the Danube. Passing the train station, we reach St. Georgen. We pass through the town and ride via Gusen to Langenstein. Then on side roads, it continues to Mauthausen. With the bike ferry we cross in Mauthausen to the right Danube bank. We follow the Danube upstream and pass through the villages Enghagen and Lorch to the city center of Enns – the oldest city in Austria.
The official Danube Cycle Path would return again to Enghagen, then right via the village Kronau to the Danube power plant (9.5 km). However, we recommend cycling from Enns on the Enns Cycle Path to St. Florian. A visit to the St. Florian Monastery is worthwhile. Via Asten, it goes back and shortly before the Abwinden-Asten power plant you meet the Danube Cycle Path again. We cross the power plant and meet after about 500 m the turnoff to Abwinden. Now the cycle path takes us on the already known route back to Linz.
