SPIRITUAL HIKING:
From three directions flow three rivers – the blue Danube from the west, the green Inn from the south, and the black Ilz from the north – merging with three different colors, and the three towers of St. Stephen's Cathedral shape the cityscape of Passau. On one side, the Prince-Bishop's fortress Oberhaus on a hill invites you, and on the other side, the pilgrimage church Mariahilf with its 321 steps beckons to be climbed. In the cathedral, dedicated to St. Stephen, is located the largest cathedral organ in the world. St. Stephen was one of the first seven elected deacons and a direct successor of Jesus in the Jerusalem early Christian community and is regarded in the Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, and Old Catholic churches as an ambassador of human love and the commitment to a good life. Today one would say: to a life in abundance. Patron saint of Passau, coachmen, masons, stonemasons, tailors, and carpenters.
