The hiking trail is not just in summer one of the most popular trails in Bad Goisern. Even in winter, the Traunreiter path is ideal for winter hiking.

Family-friendly, easy walk

Winter hiking along the Traun - in the Weißenbach area, the Traunreiterweg, which is cleared in winter, invites you to slow down on a leisurely 1 ¼ hour walk.

The trail starts to the right of the Goisererbrücke bridge (near the centre Bad Goisern am Hallstättersee) and leads past Bad Goisern railway station to the Weißenbachbrücke bridge, always accompanied by the rushing of the tireless Traun river. The level and easy path is particularly popular with families and has been one of the most popular winter hiking trails for many years.

Winter in Bad Goisern

Not only in summer is the Dachstein Salzkammergut holiday region is a popular holiday destination. The region around Bad Goisern also offers its guests fun, relaxation and sporting highlights in winter.

The nearby Ski resorts Dachstein West in Gosau and the Krippenstein in Obertraun offer sporty experiences and a breathtaking winter panorama. Both ski areas are easily accessible using the free Skibus for guests with a valid Winter Card.

Cross-country skiers also get their money's worth. The Diversity of trails attracts both beginners and experts to one of Austria's most exciting cross-country skiing centres. The various cross-country ski trails in Bad Goisern and Gosau offer both fast and leisurely excursions through glistening forests and breathtaking views of the majestic Dachstein glacier, depending on your preference. A special highlight is the high-altitude trail on the Krippenstein at 1,700 m above sea level.

Those who prefer to explore the holiday region without skis can do so on snowshoe hikes or on the various winter hiking trails and on guided winter hikes.

The holiday region also has plenty to offer for children and the young at heart. In addition to romantic horse-drawn sleigh rides, various toboggan runs and ice-skating rinks ensure fast-paced skating fun. The ice pole lifts provide additional winter sports fun.

Ski tours offer a special challenge. There are various opportunities to explore the snow-covered mountains around the Dachstein.
