A walk up the Calvary in the immediate vicinity of St. Georgen im Attergau allows you to forget the hustle and bustle for a moment and invites you to take a break with a magnificent panoramic view.
You start at the municipal office of St. Georgen and then turn right into Römerstraße and follow the road to the intersection in the direction of Wildenhag. Here you turn left and walk past the row of houses and stores until you reach Attergaustrasse again in the direction of Attersee. After about 30 m you will find the first station of the cross on the right hand side on the Calvary.
The Stations of the Cross were built between 1862 and 1869, the church between 1864 and 1869. From the St. Andrä church in Salzburg, which was demolished in 1861, the portals and the altar of the cross with the statues of Moses and Aaron were acquired. The 4 Doctors of the Church (St. Gregory the Great, St. Jerome with a cardinal's hat, St. Augustine with a heart and St. Ambrose with a beehive) were made in Salzburg in 1902. The figure of St. Gregory was stolen in 1978 and was
replaced by a new one in 1984. The two images represent St. Florian and St. Leonhard. The Stations of the Cross were restored in 1982.
