Hohenzell

Hohenzell, Oberösterreich, Österreich
The origins of Hohenzell are said to date back to Roman times. In former times, the scenic landscape surrounding Hohenzell was dominated by various hilltop fortifications. The neighboring villages of Ried and Haag even were home to Roman citadels which later became the sites for the area´s many churches. The abundance of ancient Roman roads and smuggler´s trails are testimonies of the early settlement in this Region. For a long time, Hohenzell belonged to Bavaria, Germany, and saw many severe battles and fights. This definitely is a place where history was written.

Today, Hohenzell offers an eclectic life style appealing to a wide variety of people from the most physically active to those seeking to enjoy the cultural arts and historical pursuits. Sports activities range from tennis over Alpine skiing at the nearby Reiteralm resort to western riding.

Hohenzell boasts various inns and restaurants, all of which are deeply steeped in tradition and offer a variety of cuisine from simple dining to the finest gourmet. You´re assured of a consistently warm welcome at Hohenzell´s Kirchenwirt Inn, at Holzschindel Bierstuben that is run by Mr. Hans Reichhard and at the friendly Guesthouse operated by Feichtinger Family.
