The World Heritage town of Hallstatt

If you start at the beginning of Seestraße towards the town center, you will get your first beautiful view of Lake Hallstatt and the traditional houses in Hallstatt.

The market square in Hallstatt is certainly famous, as it has also been recreated in Asia, more precisely in China in the province of Guangdong. But it would be a mistake to end the tour of Hallstatt there. The ossuary next to the Catholic church is unique in the world and steeped in history. Archaeology on the Salzberg

A must-do in Hallstatt is definitely a trip or hike up the Salzberg. Archaeological finds from the Hallstatt period and the oldest salt mine in the world await you there. The salt mine and the Skywalk are still closed until summer 2026 due to construction work.

You will need a little more courage on the Skywalk and the Welterbeblick viewing platform (reopening from summer 2026), which is made entirely of glass and floats 200 meters above Hallstatt. From here, you have a breathtaking view of the Hallstatt-Dachstein/Salzkammergut World Heritage region and Lake Hallstatt in the center.

Hallstatt offers not only culture and history, but also numerous nature experiences. On a winter hike into the Echerntal valley, you can enjoy the tranquillity and nature to the full. The Dachstein Krippenstein is just a 10-minute drive from Hallstatt, while the Dachstein West family ski area in Gosau am Dachstein is just 15 minutes away. Skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing or ski touring - you're sure to get your money's worth.
