Pregarten

Pregarten, Oberösterreich, Österreich
The market town of Pregarten is embedded in an area of awesome natural beauty, the "Lower Feldaist Valley" Nature Preserve. Pregarten first appeared in historical documents in the year 1230 and is among Upper Austria´s oldest market towns. As early as in 1356 the place was described as a thriving market. In the 15th century the market place was twice destroyed by Hussit attacks.

Rich in history, Pregarten today is the second largest community in the District of Freistadt. The place offers an eclectic life style appealing to a wide variety of people from the most physically active to those seeking to enjoy the cultural arts and intellectual pursuits. The "Lower Feldaist Valley" Nature Preserve lends itself to outstanding nature exploration with great remote trails for hiking. When it comes to culture, the "Bruck Mill" Event Center bursts with a versatile year round calendar of events. And those seeking to burn up some extra energy can choose from a tremendous variety of seasonal activities and facilities: There´s the "LAGUNE Adventure Bath", beach volleyball fields, tennis courts, soccer fields, an indoor swimming pool and much more...

On May 31, 2003 Pregarten will receive the Town Charter
