Wallfahrtskirche Marienberg

Burghausen, Bayern, Deutschland

The Marienberg pilgrimage church, also known as the "Pearl of the Salzach Valley", is a gem.

On the way to Raitenhaslach, the colourful, twin-towered pilgrimage church of St. Maria Himmelfahrt in Marienberg greets you from a hill high above the river far into the countryside. It is also known as "the pearl of the Salzach Valley" and is considered one of the most beautiful rococo churches in Bavaria. The fact that this ecclesiastical gem is dedicated to St Mary becomes clear as soon as you climb the 53 steps. The first three symbolise faith, hope and love, the following 50 the prayer of the rosary.
The ceiling paintings by fresco artist Martin Heigl are particularly worth seeing. The depictions in the pilgrimage church refer to the Mother of God and the joyful rosary.

Guided tours of the church can be booked through the Burghausen tourist office. Church services via the Raitenhaslach parish office.
