Only 9 hectares in size and a maximum depth of 4.7 metres, the small moorland lake is a bathing paradise with very good water quality for young and old.
Like its neighbouring lakes in the Ibmer Moor, Heratingersee and Höllerer See, this lake, which has been a nature reserve since 1965, was formed at the end of the last ice age. Due to its small size and depth, it usually reaches pleasant bathing temperatures as early as May. The brown colour of Lake Holzöster is due to the fact that it borders on a fescue moor to the west.
