Frame saw in Wolfing

In 1937, on the initiative of the farmer Josef Rammer, vulgo Strohmayr, around 24 farmers founded the sawmill association "Sägewerk Wolfing und Umgebung" and built a new full-frame saw on the property of the farmer Leopold Lehermayr vulgo Schöberl, which started operation on 1 May 1937.

The main reason for building the saw at the time was that farmers needed a lot of timber and having their own saw meant they could avoid the arduous task of transporting timber to a sawmill.

The full frame saw was one of the most modern saws in the area at the time and was in operation until the mid-1980s.

On the occasion of the dissolution of the sawmill community in 1995, the gang saw was handed over to the municipality of Engerwitzdorf and put into operation for the last time by the village community as part of a celebration.

Many thanks go to Josef Weikinger, who bought the land on which the saw is located in 2009 and donated it to the municipality of Engerwitzdorf. The frame saw was thus able to remain in its old location and was renovated in 2010 and 2011.
