Karl Franz Rankl (1898 - 1968)

The composer and conductor Karl Franz Rankl was a student of Arnold Schönberg and Anton Webern and conducted the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London from 1946 to 1951.

He spent many summers in St. Gilgen, where he composed and where he was laid to rest.
