Numerous breweries fell victim to the great fire of 1507 and were never put back into operation.
As a result, less than 20 years later, only twelve breweries were still in operation in the centre of Freistadt. This led to unrest among the population - who complained to the council about the lack of breweries and as a result three house owners were ordered to repair their breweries. The quality of the beers brewed in Freistadt varied from the need to buy in foreign beers due to their undrinkability to the sale of beers at Linz markets due to their above-average quality. More and more breweries ceased brewing, and the Hans-Attl-Haus, which had always been favoured due to its well, was one of the last five breweries to cease operations in 1683.open to the public, can only be viewed from the outside
