Losenstein Castle is one of the oldest castles in Upper Austria and the ancestral seat of the influential Losenstein dynasty.
The castle ruins of Losenstein are very suitable for a family outing with children, as the castle grounds are relatively quick and easy to reach and are wonderful for exploring, running around and playing. Children's imagination is stimulated by the old walls, seating niches, hidden places and stories.
Numerous seating areas and the large meadow-covered castle courtyard with many shady old trees also provide a beautiful backdrop for a family picnic or a small campfire. (A fireplace has also been specially set up for this purpose).
On the information boards, which are distributed throughout the castle grounds, the information is also prepared in a child-friendly way and stories about the former Losenstein knights invite visitors to read aloud or read for themselves.
For those who want to be guided, here is the audio guide - just download to your phone and listen to the narration!
The castle ruins of Losenstein are located on a rock in the middle of the village of Losenstein in the Upper Austrian Enns Valley, about 25km south of the city of Steyr and can be easily reached by car, train or bus. The Ennstal cycle path also passes through the village - so a detour to the castle is certainly an enrichment here too. Parking
Sufficient parking is available at the foot of the castle hill. From here it is only a few minutes to the top of the castle.
Navi address: "Burgstraße 27, 4460 Losenstein" (Alpenvereinshaus; there are numerous signposted parking spaces in front of and next to it).
