The Tannermoor is the highest raised forest bog in Austria.
The moor was formed after the last ice age around 12,000 years ago. It lies at an altitude of over 930 metres above sea level and entirely in the area of Weinsberg granite, which is interspersed with fine-grained gangue granite in some places. This forms the water-impermeable depressions in which this moor could form up to a thickness of 10 metres.
The Tanner Moor can be hiked at any time.
Hikers also have the opportunity to be accompanied through the moor by experienced moor guides, who will tell you everything you need to know and have many an interesting story or legend to tell. This tour is particularly recommended for hiking groups and school classes - information is available from the Liebenau municipal office (+43 7953 8111) or directly from the moorland guide Josefa Kaufmann (+43 676 814283469).
