Nussensee
Bad Ischl, Oberösterreich, Österreich
Lake Nussensee, which is around 10 hectares in size and 15 metres deep, is one of the most important recreational areas for the nearby town of Bad Ischl. The clear lake, surrounded by forests, exudes tranquillity, but also has one or two special natural features.
Lake Nussen has a single outflow, the Nussenbach. However, it does not have a recognisable inflow from which the lake is fed. The water in Lake Nussen comes from underground springs. These are not equally productive throughout the year and so the water level fluctuates greatly. In dry periods, the water disappears underground and sometimes even exposes part of the lake bed. The lake, which is easily accessible via a hiking trail from Bad Ischl, is also considered to be particularly clear and clean. Within two days, the water in Lake Nussensee is completely renewed by natural means.
