Haller Mauern (A5) - Totes Gebirge

Rosenau am Hengstpaß, Oberösterreich, Österreich
  • Suitable for groups

The peaks of the Haller Mauern tower high above the Windischgarsten valley and form the border with Styria in south-east Upper Austria. The Great and Little Pyhrgas in particular are well-known to hikers and mountaineers and are often climbed from Spital am Pyhrn.

The Haller Mauern are part of the Northern Limestone Alps. Regionally, the almost 20-kilometre-long mountain range is classified as part of the Ennstal Alps together with the Gesäuse in Styria. This mountain landscape is characterised by the alternation of forests, which are predominantly a mixture of spruce, fir and beech, and extensive alpine pastures, which are still used for livestock farming. Managed huts in the Haller Mauern area - Bosrückhütte, Rohrauerhaus, Hofalm or Gowilalm - make this impressive mountain range attractive for gentle hiking tourism.
