When you talk about the Almsee, you also think of the famous gray geese of the Nobel Prize winner Konrad Lorenz. Yes, they still live here in this natural valley at the foot of the Dead Mountains. And yet this nature reserve offers much more.
Especially more of fluttering and chattering, because the Almsee is a paradise for songbirds and water birds. 35 different songbird species have been counted here and 20 of them also breed on the lake.
You can also find a hiking trail around the lake "Almsee". In the south, at the popular starting point for hikers, the landscape is characterized by meadows and the lake by a silting zone. A special feature of the Almsee is the "floating island", which was created from fallen trees and driftwood, but has been stuck in a small bay near the hiking trail for some time.
The area is freely accessible all year round. We kindly ask you to treat nature with care and take special care during the twilight times.
