Landschaftsschutzgebiet Weyr-Welsern
Neukirchen an der Vöckla, Oberösterreich, Österreich
- All weather
At 2.7 hectares, this relatively small nature reserve is located on the edge of Neukirchen an der Vöckla and takes its name from the two districts of Weyr and Welsern. A wetland forest is combined here with a hedge of trees and shrubs that is particularly popular with birds.
The hedge, which is around a quarter of a kilometre long, provides both shelter and food for many different bird species. A meadow lies between this hedge and the wet woodland, which consists mainly of alder trees. A near-natural stream flows through it, which also forms marshy areas and small ponds. Although the only larger pond is man-made, it blends seamlessly into the picture of a forest that is only lightly utilised by humans and also contains a lot of natural and ecologically valuable dead wood.
