Puchheimer Au

Attnang-Puchheim, Oberösterreich, Österreich

The Puchheimer Au is a landscape conservation area on the River Ager in the town of Attnang-Puchheim. With its meadows and forests, streams and ponds, this floodplain is an important refuge for rare plants and animals.

Puchheim takes its name from a beech grove situated on a hill near the River Ager. Puchheim Castle and the pilgrimage basilica are the dominant features here. A vantage point from which there is an excellent view of the floodplain: the former fish ponds of the castle as well as the extensive floodplain forests. More than 60 different bird species nest here in an environment that offers a wide variety of vegetation and habitats, from tree stands to reed beds.
