In 1965, a theatre group of Catholic youth under spiritual direction succeeded in making a start in drama. The consistently light-hearted comedy productions were gratefully received by the public.

Around the same time, a "free" group was founded. This was a loose circle that mainly focussed on literature and other cultural forms. This led to the first reading evening, dedicated to spring and summer poems. Short plays were realised: Valentin, Max Mell...

Around 1970, a kind of "unification" took place. Under the direction of Robert Wandl and Gerhard Pilz, an attempt was made to organise several events throughout the year. These included readings, seminar visits... Guitarists were invited, who were very popular at the time in the singer-songwriter era.

And - very importantly - we soon succeeded in setting the tone in the field of puppet (figure) theatre.

At some point, they came up with the idea of incorporating more musical (and sometimes dance) elements. Starting with so-called "colourful evenings" and revue-like theatre carnival events, the idea of the "Perg cabaret" was born. These things also made it easier to get young people interested in theatre work.

Again and again, plans emerged to create a home for the cultural forces of our town. There was always a lot of talk. Many things were considered. Thought about and discarded again. The result was the Kutur-Zeughaus - a difficult birth.

But it can be said with some pride that theatre people played a major role in its planning, work and financial expenditure.

Now we not only have premises for rehearsals and performances. There is the gallery in the armoury, which can be used in a variety of ways; exhibitions, chess and, since 1997, the writing workshop.
