Schopf wayside cross

For Franz Schopf, who taught as a HTL teacher in Ried, the Almkogel was the local mountain to which he liked to go and often.
So also on 28. 6. 2008, when he wanted to recover after exhausting graduation days. Here, however, he suffered a heart attack.
Anton Ebner was also there on this day. He was engaged as a speaker at the festival "Tracht und Musik", which took place a week later, and wanted to collect his thoughts during the tour on the Almkogel and prepare himself for his task. Suddenly he saw a person lying next to the path on his stomach. Even when he turned it over, he did not recognize her at first. Spontaneously, he controlled the pulse and began mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. He was able to inform his sister at Gasthof Drachenwand and ask her to help. Mountain rescue and alpine police were quickly informed and a helicopter was deployed. But even the emergency doctor could not help anymore. As shocking as the fact of sudden death was, it was and is comforting for the family to know that immediately after Franz Schopf had suffered the infarction, help was on the ground. Toni Ebner has the certainty that he acted correctly, but unfortunately could not help anymore.
In this place he will never pass by carelessly. The relatives wanted a memorial there. Mr. Bichlbauer made the wayside cross, which is maintained by the family and friends and gladly visited.
